Dear Friend,

I am glad you have come here! Please head right to Sitar, or look around if you’d like!

I have never really had an active site before. I will be adding things nearly every day for awhile.

This is going to be a very unusual site. Yes, it has the purpose of promotion. But very importantly to me, I want also to share ideas and work that at this point are not in sellable form. I hope my impressions and thoughts may be of use to someone.

There will be a personal aspect to this site that is, I believe, unusual. I do not frequent sites, so I am not sure. This brings up the subject of identity and branding and selling. This is a topic I want to address on the site.

The psychologist Carl Jung said somewhere that we all have a persona - whether we like it or not. Persona is unavoidable. In the world of the internet and marketing this is especially true.

On this site you will find me, first and foremost as a sitarist. Sitar is my spine and has been the core of my life for over fifty years. But I decided in 1978 to not try to pursue sitar in the typical manner as a performing artist. This, for reasons one perhaps would not expect. I have loved teaching, and accompanying my poet friends. But from here it gets a bit more complicated. I believe that some of my struggles and aspirations have been cultural. Some have been, believe it or not, theological. And some have of course been due to my failings. At this stage of my life, and given what is happening in the world, I want to embark in a new direction and I hope to be having sitar gatherings frequently.

I plan to write about all this, here, and to share art and ideas and compositions and stories.

And to raise funds both for projects, and to keep body, soul and teeth in one place for a whole longer!
